Fixing a PSP screen is actually very easy, so instead of sending your PSP to Sony to be fixed, do it yourself for about half as much as Sony charges. All you need to do is find a replacement screen in either the LCD or LED flavor, unplug the old screen and install the new one.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Replacement screen
  • Small flathead and Phillips-head screwdrivers
  • Hair dryer
  1. Step 1

Allow the new screen to warm up to room temperature before installing.

  2. Step 2

Remove the five screws on the PSP to remove the faceplate. The first two screws are located underneath the battery cover. Remove the first screw and set aside. The other screw is located underneath the warranty sticker. Take your hair dryer and heat up the sticker and remove it to maintain warranty. Remove the screw.

  3. Step 3

Remove the screws on the opposite side of the battery cover and the final screw on the underside of the PSP.

  4. Step 4

Gently remove the faceplate. There is a button bar located on the bottom of the screen that must be removed. First disconnect the cable that connects the bar to the motherboard by lifting the tab up and pulling out the cable. Remove the button bar.

  5. Step 5

Insert the flat screwdriver between the screen and the metal support surrounding it. Twist the tool slightly to release the clips on the left side of the PSP.

  6. Step 6

Fold the screen down gently as to not disconnect the cables connecting it to the motherboard. Like the button bar clips, lift them up gently to remove the cables. Remove the old screen after they are disconnected.

  7. Step 7

Place your new screen into the PSP after connecting the cables to the motherboard. Connect the button bar onto the new screen and place the faceplate back onto the PSP.

  8. Step 8

Turn the PSP on to test it before attaching the screws. After the successful test, turn off the PSP and attach screws. Place the warranty sticker back onto PSP and close the battery cover. Enjoy your new PSP screen.
