- 4 oz. semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 4 oz. dark chocolate, chopped
- Spoon or whisk
- Cooling rack
- 9-inch-by-9-inch square baking pan
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
- Large mixing bowl
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- Electric mixer
- 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- Medium bowl
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions

1
Fill a saucepan with 2 inches of water. Let it simmer. Place a heat-safe bowl inside the saucepan. Make the bowl rest just above the water, not in the water.
-
2
Add slices of butter to the bowl and sprinkle chocolate (except the chocolate chips) evenly into the melting butter. Heat it for 5 minutes, and then stir or whisk until it's smooth.
-
-
3
Transfer the bowl of chocolate to a cooling rack, and let the chocolate cool to room temperature.
-
4
Heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
5
Lightly butter a 9-inch-by-9-inch square cake pan and dust it with flour to coat. Bang out any excess flour.
-
6
Combine sugars in a large mixing bowl. Break up any clumps. Add the eggs. Beat the sugars and eggs mixture with an electric mixer at medium-high speed until blended, about 30 seconds. Blend in vanilla. Add the cooled-down liquid chocolate. Mix on medium speed until blended evenly.
-
7
Sift the salt and flour into a medium bowl. Stir them into the chocolate mixture, half at a time. Continue stirring until no streaks of flour remain. Stir in the chocolate chips. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan. Flatten and smooth the batter with a spoon.
-
8
Bake the brownies for 30 to 35 minutes on the oven's center rack. Brownies are finished when they have risen slightly and their top develops a thin crust. A toothpick inserted in the brownies should be lightly coated with moist batter, but not wet, when the brownies are done baking. Do not overbake.
-
9
Transfer the pan to the cooling rack. Cool the brownies completely.
-
10
Cover and refrigerate the brownies for several hours before slicing to produce clean cuts. Serve at room temperature. This recipe makes 12 to 16 brownies.
