How to Stop Balloon Pop Ups on My Computer Desktop

You're tired of seeing the same Windows balloon pop-ups appear in the notification area of your system tray every time you boot your computer. The balloon pop-ups alert you that a new device has been found, or a Wi-Fi connection has been found, or updates have been found for your computer. While these pop-ups can be helpful, you may choose to ease your life and live without them. To disable the balloon pop-ups on your Windows computer, you will need to edit the system Registry, which acts as the backbone and brain to your PC.

Tips & Warnings

  • Balloon pop ups can occur as either a friendly reminder (new hardware has been installed) or an alert that something may need to be addressed (disk space becomes limited). It is advisable to address any issues that are presented within the balloon messages. Simply turning off or disabling balloon pops will not make these issues go away.

  • Before you make any changes to the Registry, back it up. Click the "File" menu, then "Export..." to save a backup copy of the current Registry. Do not edit the system Registry if you are not familiar with the settings. Making the wrong changes in the Registry can cause permanent and irreversible damage to your computer.
