How to Make a Jumping Paper Frog
Creating this small paper frog is a great project for kids. It will give them pleasure to master the steps as their frog comes into being, and once it's complete, they'll have a fun toy that will even have a little jump in it.

1
Fold the sheet in half and cut it along the fold line. You will only need one of these pieces for this project.
-
2
Fold the bottom corners of the rectangle upwards so that they meet the edges of the paper on the opposite side. The edges of each corner should meet in the middle of the paper. Unfold to create a crease.
-
-
3
Turn the paper around and fold the other two corners in the same way and unfold. You should now have two sets of crossed diagonals (two squares) on either side of the paper.
-
4
Pinch the area on top and bottom of the diagonals on one side of the paper, allowing the fold lines to create a triangle. Press this down and do the same on the opposite side. You should now have a square made up of two triangles.
-
5
Fold the corners of each triangle inward to meet the points on the right and left sides of the paper.
-
6
Fold the pieces that you just made backward again so that the edges of the previous fold and the edge of the point touch. These should stick over the edge of the rest of the model slightly and will be the feet of the frog when you are finished.
-
7
Turn the model over. Two of the corners should have more layers than the other two. Fold one of these down to point toward the middle of the paper. This will be the back of the frog, while the opposite point will be the head.
-
8
Fold the points in the side inward so that the edge lays along the middle of the model. The corner on the back of the frog has little pockets in the middle of the layers--tuck the upper corner of each side into these pockets.
-
9
Turn the frog over and fold it in the middle of the legs. Then fold the back in half in the opposite direction. This creates the loose fold that makes the frog jump when you press down on it and let go.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have origami paper, you can use a normal sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Just fold the sheet into thirds and cut off one of these section. Begin following the steps above, creating the first diagonal fold. When you begin the second, fold the entire paper, and not just the corner, so that the edges of each diagonal meet in the middle. Cut off the excess paper that remains below the fold.
