How to Cleanse Your House
When you move into a new home or a tragedy or serious illness occurs in your present residence, it is wise to cleanse your house of harmful impurities, entities and energies that may be lingering unseen within your living space. While many herbs are commonly used to cleanse a house, the herb sage is particularly beneficial because its smoke attaches to negative energies, disperses them and reforms them into positive energies. Does this Spark an idea?

- Lighter or matches
- Metal bowl or abalone shell
- Large glass or bowl of water
Instructions
-
-
1
Choose a time of day that you are unlikely to be interrupted. Turn off your house and cell phones.
-
2
Turn off air-conditioning or heating units.
-
-
3
Open all windows and doors in your home.
-
4
Turn on all fans in your house.
-
5
Light the smudge stick and wait for it to begin smoldering.
-
6
Blow out the flame. If the stick is not smoking profusely, repeat Step 5 as many times as necessary to get a thick, heavy smoke going.
-
7
Hold the smudge stick over a metal bowl or abalone shell to safely transport it from room to room.
-
8
State an overall intention for your house cleansing. Recite a prayer or a statement to your Higher Power or Higher Self. For example, say "I invoke my Higher Power (or Higher Self) to cleanse me and this space of all impurities, negative entities and negative energies."
-
9
Smudge yourself. Holding the stick close to, but not touching, your body and staring at your toes, very slowly and carefully move the smudge stick straight up the front of your body and around your head. Then, beginning at your heels, smudge the back of your body. You can also carefully smudge yourself in a circular pattern. However, if you do smudge yourself in a circular pattern, be sure to have someone there to watch you closely to ensure you do not burn yourself.

10
Smudge your house. Beginning at the doorway, direct the smoke around each door frame. Then walk completely around each room, directing the smoke onto the walls, paying special attention to the four corners of each room. Then walk through the middle of the rooms and smudge in circular motions. Carefully smudge all empty closets, cabinets and dresser drawers.
-
11
Give thanks. Thank your Higher Power or Higher Self for removing all potentially dangerous impurities, negative energies and entities from your home.
-
12
Extinguish your smudge stick. Place your smudge stick up-side-down into a glass or bowl of water and let it stay there for at least one hour before discarding.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't like sage or are allergic to it, use lavender, clove, rosemary, cinnamon, cypress, sandalwood, cedar or myrrh to cleanse your house.
It is best to have someone else with you while you are cleansing your home to have two sets of eyes on the fire and the smoke.
