How to Use Fix It Utilities 6 Software

Fix It Utilities 6 is an older version of the software that helps you maintain your computer. The current version (as of October 2009) is Fix It Utilities 9. The newer version has an Internet speed optimizer and an improved antivirus engine, so it's worth considering updating. The versions all work roughly the same way, however, and even version 6 helps you if you have a slowing down or crashing PC. Use Fix It Utilities to clean up unnecessary files and protect your PC.

Instructions

    • 1

With the Fix It Utilities 6 software open, from the Start menu, go to "All Programs," and choose the Fix It Utilities application.

    • 2

Look at the main interface. You see the status of the PC. You see how your system protection is performing, which includes things like the last time Windows Update was run. Look for any red icons that indicate an area that needs attention. It's usually because a protection item is out of date. The green icons indicate the item is performing correctly.

    • 3

Make a note of the red icon items.

    • 4

Click the button marked "One-Click Solutions." It's got a screwdriver and wrench icon on it. The One-click Solutions are the simplest and fastest way to get your computer back up to acceptable operating performance.

    • 5

Click on the "Comprehensive" button. This activates a series of 95 tests and fixes to clean, protect, fix and optimize the system. Allow the system to go through its processes after you click on this button.

    • 6

The software prompts you to choose wizards to run based on the Comprehensive scan you ran. It may ask you to run one of the other features of the program like the CleanUp Wizard, which is used for cleaning out hard-drive clutter.

    • 7

When you have run through all the suggestions the software makes for you, and completed all the wizards it suggests, go back to the initial screen. Click "Home" and compare your new results with the previous results. The number of red icons should be significantly reduced, and you should now see predominantly green icons.

    • 8

Run the "One-Click Protect" or "One Click Optimize" button that are adjacent to any groups of red icons.

    • 9

Reboot the computer, and try a few programs to see how your performance has improved.
