World of Warcraft is a popular massively multiplayer online (MMO) game. Launched in November 2004, it took only four months to gain 1.5 million subscribers. Compared to its peers in the MMO market, it has experienced explosive growth. In October 2008, it reached the milestone of 11 million subscribers. No other MMO has come close to this achievement. In a few simple steps, you can create your account and join the millions of players today.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the World of Warcraft community website and click on "Create Account" in the navigation list under the "Account" heading. A link to the site is in the References section of this article. On the account creation screen that appears, click the "Create Account" button.

  2. Step 2

Enter your authentication key and the security check data and click "Continue." See the Tips section for where to find this information.

  6. Step 6

Create your user name and password, then click "Continue." Finally, verify that all information is correct and click "Finish." You can now launch the game and log in.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your authentication key is usually found on the software case. If you downloaded the product instead, the key is typically given in an email or on a confirmation page. Be sure to use a valid, private email address. Blizzard may use it for important communications with you, such as password retrieval and response to requests for support. Blizzard accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover as well as Paypal, PhoneBill and prepaid game cards. PhoneBill allows Blizzard to add your subscription fee to your home telephone bill. Prepaid game cards can be purchased just about anywhere the software was purchased, such as GameStop, Best Buy, and Walmart. PhoneBill and game cards allow customers without credit cards or bank accounts to pay for their subscriptions. In the Billing Details, you can choose to pay for one month, three months or one year at a time. Paying more less often saves you a little money on your subscription.
  • Allowing others access to your account can compromise its security. Always keep your password private. Never share an account with a friend. Blizzard employees will never ask for your user name or password, either in an email or in the game. Beware of offers that sound too good to be true. Always use the World of Warcraft community site to verify new information.
