How to Attach a Boat Anchor

An anchor is an essential part of a boat. When it's tossed into the water, it sinks to the bottom where it rests. The weight -- and claws, if applicable -- of an anchor hold it firmly in place. An anchor holds a boat in one spot and prevents it from drifting. This is useful for mooring the boat for fishing, taking a swim, or for staying in one spot overnight. To use an anchor, attach it securely to the boat's rope line using an anchor bend knot.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Push the rope line through the ring on the anchor, or in the last link of the chain attached to the anchor. Push it through until there's about a foot of line through the ring or chain link to make an anchor bend knot.

  2. Step 2

Grab the end of the rope line. Bring it up and put it through the ring or chain link again. Keep the line loose by spreading it out with the fingers of your other hand. You now should have two loops of rope around the anchor ring or chain link.

  3. Step 3

Pull the end of the rope down. Then, cross it over the front side of the single line that's attached to the ring or chain link. Push the end through the two loops of rope from the right side to the left.

  4. Step 4

Pull the end of the rope down and tighten the line to make an anchor bend knot. The two loops are now firmly secured to the loop or chain link so the anchor is attached to the rope line.
