How to Calculate Carbon Credits for Travel

You can easily calculate your carbon emissions from multiple travel methods, including airplane, car, bus and train, by using an online carbon footprint calculator. The carbon calculator will also tell you how much money it takes to offset your carbon emissions. Your donation goes to a charity that invests in renewable energy, such as wind farms, or plants trees. By becoming aware of your carbon emissions, you can help reduce the effects of global warming.

Instructions

1. Choose a carbon footprint calculator by clicking on one of the links under "References" at the bottom of this page. Each carbon calculator might have a slightly different result, and each site allows you to donate to different organizations to offset your carbon footprint.

2. Select the correct tab for your mode of transportation. You can choose flights, bus, train or car.

3. Enter your information. If you want to calculate your carbon footprint for an airplane flight, you will need to enter the departure and arrival locations, whether the flight was one-way or round-trip, and the number and locations of stops you made during the flight. Click on the prompt that allows you to calculate your carbon footprint. Your result will be listed in tons of carbon emitted.
