Connecting a home stereo tuner to your computer's sound card can provide a number of benefits. It can be a great way to add surround sound to your current computer setup without the need for buying a new stereo or speaker package. Connecting a stereo tuner to a PC sound card can be done just as simply as hooking up a TV or DVD player to the same devices.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure your sound card has the appropriate inputs necessary to connect it to a stereo tuner. Though all sound cards manufactured in the last decade will be compatible, make sure that yours has an input labeled "Line Out" and an input labeled "Line In."

  2. Step 2

Use a component audio cable to connect the "Line In" input on the back of your sound card to an audio device input on the back of your stereo tuner. It doesn't matter what the actual label of the input is on the back of the tuner; it could say "PC" or "DVD" or "LD" or something to that effect.

  3. Step 3

Use a second component audio cable to connect the "Line Out" input on the back of your sound card to the second audio input on the back of your stereo tuner. Make sure that both component audio cables are running to audio ports listed under the same input label on the back of your tuner.

  4. Step 4

Set your stereo tuner to the proper input. If you've plugged the component audio cables running from your sound card into the input labeled "DVD," for example, you'll have to switch your tuner to the "DVD" input to be able to hear sound from your computer.

  5. Step 5

Make sure "Line In" is not muted. Navigate to the Control Panel of your computer and select "Sounds and Audio Devices." Click on the "Advanced" button to bring up the Audio Control Panel. Make sure the settings for "Line In" do not indicate that this particular channel on your sound card is muted. If it is, remove the check from the "Mute" box by clicking on it. Your stereo will then be processing all the sounds it is receiving from your computer.
