How to Remove Connections in Internet Options

Windows' Internet Options box allows you to configure a number of details mostly dealing with the Internet Explorer browser and with Dial Up connections. The connections list also contains internet connections made by wireless broadband cards offered by wireless cell phone companies, such as Verizon Wireless, and other Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). If you have logged in to a number of VPNs or dial-up accounts, you may need to unclutter the connections list.

Windows will ask if you want Internet Explorer to delete the network connection and show the name of the connection you've chosen. If you are sure you want to delete the connection, choose "OK." The connection will no longer be present in the "Dial Up and VPN settings" box.

Tips & Warnings

  • Unless you are absolutely certain you will not be using the connection again, you may wish to save the connection data before you delete it by opening up a connection's properties and jotting down any of the settings listed.

  • Once you delete a connection, that option will no longer be available to you. Make sure you do not need a specific connection option before you delete it. Want to remove the Connections tab from Internet Options? This process requires that you modify the Windows registry, which can cause your system to become unstable should you modify the wrong values and strings. Please see the TweakLibrary link in Resources if you wish to remove the tab and not individual connections.
