How to Become a Hot Wheels Dealer

Hot Wheels are some of the most collected toys. Collectors are looking for the same cars they played with as kids and also for the ones they always wanted as children, but never had. Dealers sell the toys online and offline through stores and flea markets. You too can become a Hot Wheels dealer, but it takes some work.

Instructions

    • 1

Invest in a price guide specifically for Hot Wheels, such as Hall's Guide or Beckett Official Price Guide to Hot Wheels. The Beckett's guide is one of the best because the company releases a new guide every year, which clearly shows the prices of new and vintage cars.

    • 2

Decide if you want to sell new Hot Wheels, old Hot Wheels or a combination of both. The most successful Hot Wheel dealers are those who sell both because they then appeal to all types of buyers, including those who just want to buy a few cars for their children.

    • 3

Amass a collection of used Hot Wheels by visiting thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets and any other location that sells used toys. Before you can start selling you need an inventory, and the best place to get bargains is from buying used.

    • 4

Buy new Hot Wheels from toy stores, but buy a case at a time and ask for a fresh case from the back of the store or the storeroom. Chase cars are those that are more rare and harder to find, which makes these worth more money. If you can find a few, you'll make 2 to 3 times or more what you paid for the case.

    • 5

Set up at a local flea market, swap meet or another location where people sell items, but also sell online through an auction site like eBay or through your own website. This gives you a large base of customers right off the bat and multiple ways to make money. You can use the price guide to determine how to price your cars.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check out local toy stores and other stores in your area that sell toys, paying special attention to the clearance racks. You never know when you might find deals and cars that will be worth more in the future.

  • Price guides list the approximate value of Hot Wheels, but you shouldn't expect to make that same amount. If you price your cars too high, you might alienate your potential customer base and stop them from buying your cars.
