How to Replace the Drum Belt on a Dryer

When the dryer motor is running but the drum is not rotating you either have a broken or loose dryer belt.     • 1

      Using a screwdriver, remove the two screws that secure the control panel console to the dryer top panel. There is one screw on each end and they may be covered by decorative trim. The trim can be unsnapped with your fingers to reveal the screw heads.

      Flip the control panel console back into the service position. In this position it will rest on its hinges.

      Use a screwdriver to remove the three screws that secure the top panel to the rear panel of the dryer.

      Slide the top panel forward and then lift up to remove it from the dryer cabinet. If your unit did not have screws, you will have to first open your lint screen and remove the two screws under the door. Remove the lint trap and then use a putty knife inserted between the top and front panel to disengage retaining clips and lift your top panel off.

      Insert a putty between the toe panel and the front panel to disengage the clips that secure the toe panel. Pull the toe panel away from the dryer.

      Use a screwdriver to remove the single screw at each top corner of the front panel that secure the front to the side panels. Disconnect the door switch by releasing the wiring harness with your fingers. Lift up on the front panel and pull it away from the dryer.

      Reach your hand under the drum and between the motor to locate the idler pulley. Grab the idler pulley and push the idler pulley to the left to release belt tension. Remove the belt from the idler pulley.

      Lift up on the drum and pull the drum and drive belt out of the dryer. Place the new belt around the drum and place the drum back inside the dryer cabinet. Make sure that it sits flush with the rear drum boot if equipped on your model.

      Route the dryer belt over the motor pulley and idler pulley. Pull the idler pulley down to engage the belt tension.

      Reinstall the front panel and the toe panel to the dryer cabinet. Line the top panel up and either snap it in place or reinstall the three securing screws on the rear of the panel.

      Pull the control panel console back down and install the securing screws. Plug the dryer back into the wall outlet.
