How to Pour Concrete for a Basketball Court

  • Stakes or ground markers
  • Gravel or crushed rock
  • Concrete mix and water

      Square off a 30 by 30 foot area where the basketball court will lie, marking it with the stakes. Using the shove, dig up and remove the entire section of ground 8 inches deep. Remove any large pieces of rock or concrete that you might have knocked loose.

      Spread 5 inches of gravel or crushed rock over the entire area of the basketball court. Use a weighted rolling pin and compact the gravel. Step back and survey the area, making sure there are not low or uneven spots within the court.

      Follow the directions on the back of the concrete bags and use the wheelbarrow to create the mixture. Spread 3 inches of the concrete mix over the entire area of the basketball court, making sure to level the mixture out as you go. Allow the concrete to dry, then survey the area to look for low spots where you might need to add more concrete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that it is a dry, warm day outside before you attempt to build the basketball court. The concrete will need time to dry completely.
