Finding a florist to handle the flowers for your wedding is an important factor in ensuring your wedding turns out the exact way you envision it. Hiring a florist who comes highly recommended and who understands your individual needs and budget is essential to having the bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres and floral arrangements you see when you close your eyes, dreaming of your wedding day.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bridal magazines
  1. Step 1

Determine your budget, wedding style and colors before you begin your quest to find a florist. Knowing what you want will help when it comes time to question potential florists.

  2. Step 2

Print out flower arrangements that you like from the Internet. Browse bridal magazines and cut out any floral arrangements or bouquets that interest you. Put them together along with a picture of your dress and swatches of your bridesmaids' dresses to show your potential florists.

  3. Step 3

Ask any of your friends or relatives who recently got married in the same area about their florist and experience. Contact your wedding planner and reception venue and ask if they recommend any florists in the area, or ask which florists they have successfully worked with.

  4. Step 4

Visit wedding vendor websites, such as "Wedding Approved" for additional references, if necessary. Build a list of at least three different florists to interview.

  5. Step 5

Interview potential florists, explaining your budget and preferred style and show them the pictures you've gathered. Allow the florist to show you pictures of previous arrangements in your price range that are similar to what you're looking for. Hire the florist you feel most comfortable with.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask your potential florists which flowers are in season--keeping your colors in mind--and what substitutes might be used for any reason. They should also be able to recommend similar but less expensive flowers than your first choice if budget issues arise. Order a couple of extra boutonnieres in case any are misplaced or dry out before the wedding.
  • Read your contract carefully, confirming the price, payment schedule, delivery and setup times and if any substitute flowers are designated in case of last-minute delivery issues.
