Things You'll Need:
- internet access
- newspaper
- old sheets or towels
- time
-
Step 1
One of the easiest things you can do involves a few clicks on your computer! Websites such as animalrescuesite.com raise funds via advertisers, and you can click a button daily to generate a donation to help feed shelter animals. The search engine dogreatgood.com also donates to charity for each search. Companies such as rachaelray.com and tomsofmaine.com offer opportunities to vote for various organizations to win grant money. It's easy, quick, free and helps homeless pets and other charities everywhere.
-
Step 2
Cleaning out closets and getting organized? Set aside your old sheets, towels, blankets and other items that can be used by shelters as bedding, and drop them off. It will help you eliminate clutter at home, and helps homeless pets as well.
-
Step 3
Save old newspapers and drop them off at your local shelter. Many shelters and rescue groups used old papers to line enclosures, or shred them for puppies, kittens and exotics. Non-profit organizations can also make use of any coupons from your Sunday paper that you will not use.
-
Step 4
Donate your time! Shelters welcome volunteers to help clean, walk and socialize dogs, make phone calls, stuff envelopes or any number of other tasks. Even a few hours a week will help!

on 10/30/2009 I have never thought about this, but what a great way to help. Unfortunately there is not enough information and public awareness on this subject.

on 10/15/2009 Great advice! I walk dogs at the local shelter every week... it not only gets the dogs outside for some fresh air and change of scenery, but I also get some exercise in!
