How to Make Broccoli Salad

Broccoli salad recipes are easy to find, but this one has some special twists with walnuts and cauliflower. It also has bacon, which can make it appealing to broccoli haters. It is also not as labor-intensive as some broccoli salads can be. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2 to 3 heads of broccoli
  • 1 head of cauliflower
  • 4 medium tomatoes
  • Large white onion
  • 1 package fully cooked bacon
  • 1 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
  • Large knife
  • Cutting board
  • Serving bowls
  • Serving spoon

Instructions

    • 1

      Wash the broccoli, cauliflower and tomatoes and onion. Pat them dry and break apart the broccoli heads and cauliflower.

      Use a knife to cut the broccoli and cauliflower into bite size pieces. Set them aside and chop the tomatoes into bite size pieces. Chop the large white onion into small pieces. Put all the chopped ingredients in a large serving bowl.

      Mix the mayonnaise, sugar and vinegar in a small bowl and set aside.

      Tear the fully cooked bacon into small pieces. Put them in the large bowl with the vegetables.

      Add the chopped walnuts and mix thoroughly. Drizzle the mayonnaise dressing over the vegetables and mix thoroughly. Cover and let it chill 2 hours in the refrigerator before serving it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always let it chill for a couple hours to let the ingredients blend together. It tastes so much better that way

  • You can use regular bacon and fry it up and chop it up to put in salad if you want. I just find the fully cooked bacon is easier to use

  • You can omit the walnuts if you want but I find it adds a nice crunch to the salad

  • I like to use fresh tomatoes out the garden. It just tastes so much better
