How to Reset the HTC Hero to Factory Settings

Most problems with the HTC Hero don't require a factory reset. If restarting the phone doesn't resolve a problem, resetting to the factory settings fixes any software issues. Resetting removes all the personal data from the phone and erases the microSD card if present. Resetting works well if you plan to sell or trade the phone and want to remove all your personal information.

Things You'll Need

  • HTC Hero
  • A few seconds
  • Back up all the data on your HTC Hero before resetting. This includes contacts, photos and memos. Remove the microSD card if you don't want to erase it.

  • Press the "Home" button to return to the main screen. Press the "Menu" button. Tap the "Settings" option on the screen.

  • Scroll down and tap the "Privacy" option. Tap the "Factory data reset" option. Tap the "Reset phone" option and select "Erase everything."

Tips & Warnings

  • If you wish to restart your phone with buttons (not touch screen), you can do so when the phone is off. Press and hold "Home" and "Back" simultaneously, then press the "Power" button briefly and the phone will reset itself. When it finishes after a few seconds press "Menu".
