The “Google Mosaic Art” project is a great project to do early in the year or during a computer thematic unit. The project is simple enough for the kids who cannot read or write to do and is fun for everyone. The Google brand is now a recognizable global icon, and it is always helpful and effective to teach pre-readers using logos that they can recognize. This is also a useful activity for improving your students' fine motor skills.

Here is how to create a Google mosaic.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get some 11-by-14 inch black (or white) construction paper.

  2. Step 2

Cut the paper into 7-by-14 inch pieces.

  3. Step 3

Write “Google” on the paper with a white crayon in similar font to that of the logo.

  4. Step 4

Have the kids cut small squares of colored paper from strips that you cut out first.

  5. Step 5

Have a sample for the kids to see while they do the project.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that your students keep their elbows next to their bodies when they are cutting.
