Step 1
The first quality in a shoe should be heel and toe rocker. This is the slight curve upward that is built into the shoes sole. The built in rocker allows the shoe to rock back and forth, making the shoe do most of the work and not your injured foot.
-
Step 2
The next quality to look for is a firm sole. You can test for a proper sole by holding the shoe by the toe box and heel. Next try to flex the sole of the shoe back and forth. The shoe should only flex across the ball of the foot. If the shoe flexes in the arch area do not buy the shoe, it will only irritate your plantar fasciitis.

Step 3
Make sure the heel elevation of the shoe is about one to one and a half inches high. This will help shift some of the weight load off of your heels.
-
Step 4
Only buy shoes that have a removable insoles. This will allow you remove the existing insoles and replace them with an orthotic or arch support.
