Things You'll Need:
- florist foam cubes
- paper
- tape and glue
- toothpicks
- markers and craft decorations
-
Step 1
Begin with a foam florist cube. These cubes can be purchased at Dollar Tree in packs of three. You can also get them in the craft or floral section of any large store.
-
Step 2
Cover the cube in paper in the same way that you would wrap a gift. You can use colored construction paper or plain paper.
-
Step 3
Decorate your cake any way that you would like. It can be as simple or as fancy as you please. You can just draw on the paper with markers or you can break out the glue and add decorations such as scrapbooking die cuts and beads.
-
Step 4
Push toothpicks into the foam to make candles for your birthday cake. If you use sharp-edged toothpicks, take care that children do not injure themselves.
-
Step 5
To make candles appear to be lit, crinkle up a small piece of yellow or orange tissue paper and dip it in glue. Press the tissue on to the top of each toothpick and allow to dry.
-
Step 6
To make the cake look more realistic, display on a metal cake pan.
