How to Train With a Total Gym

The Total Gym has become one of the top home gym pieces of equipment on the fitness market. The Total Gym allows you to work you entire body without large amounts of free weights and without taking up a large area of your house or fitness room. With the right training method, the Total Gym can help you achieve and maintain your desirable fitness level by working out about five days a week for less than an hour a day.

Instructions

    • 1

Adjust the settings on your Total Gym to work your biceps and back on the first day of your exercise week. Do 10 repetitions of three sets of your first bicep workout, and then do 10 repetitions of three sets of two other bicep workouts. Next, follow the same formula for your back exercises. Working your back and your biceps on the same day is beneficial because you are performing similar lifts and exercising complementary muscles.

    • 2

Work your chest and your triceps on the second day, using the same three exercise/three-set/10-repetition formula as Day 1. The sets should take you about a half-hour and allow you to work your chest muscles. Tricep lifts will help both muscles.

    • 3

Work your shoulders and your abs on the third day. Though the muscles are not complementary, you will be able to get a full abdominal workout while working the lighter muscles of the shoulders.

    • 4

Repeat steps one through three on days four, five and six of your workout routine. This will give you the opportunity to rest your muscles two days between workouts and keep the same routine, allowing your muscles to continue building strength.

    • 5

Increase weight each new day you work a muscle and allow yourself the seventh day of the week to rest your muscles, so they can recuperate for a full and heavy workout after your day off.

    • 6

Be sure that you are lifting to failure if you are trying to build size, or add extra repetitions if you are trying to cut fat and tone your muscles.
