How to Install Flex Moulding

Adding decorative moulding to your walls can beautify your home and increase its value. Traditionally, contractors and home remodelers use wood moulding to accent their walls. It's great for straight walls, but it's difficult to use on curved walls and arches. Consider using a composite flexible moulding on curved surfaces to minimize the stress of home remodeling. Installation is just as easy as wood moulding. Flexible molding is durable, and it doesn't swell or crack like wood molding. It even can be painted the same way as wood moulding. Instructions

  1. Install Flexible Moulding

    • 1

Measure the length of molding that you wish to install, and mark it. Then use a table or hand saw to cut the moulding, following the cut line.

    • 2

Apply construction adhesive to the back of the moulding in a continuous, wavy "S" pattern. Lift the molding into place, and press against the wall's surface.

    • 3

Nail the moulding into place with a nail gun. Use finishing nails, and make sure to avoid nailing closer than ¼ inch from the edge of the moulding.

    • 4

Fill nail holes with wood putty. Apply it with a putty knife, and scrape away the excess. Allow the putty to dry according to manufacturer's directions.

    • 5

Sand and paint your flexible moulding just as you would on any wood moulding.

Tips & Warnings

  • Modern flexible molding is designed to be treated just like traditional wood moulding. Treat flex molding the way you would traditional moulding.
