The Lhasa Apso was originally a guard dog for palaces in Tibet. They make decent watch dogs and are good family pets. Every breed of dog has its own temperament, and this will change the way you train the dog. The Lhasa Apso is no different. It is a playful breed, but it is also wary of strangers and may take some time to warm up to the family. Once you've made your puppy feel comfortable in its new surroundings, you can begin teaching your puppy to sit and lie down. Once you have accomplished these commands, it is time to move on to stay.

Tell your puppy to "sit" or "lie down." Tell your puppy to "stay." If you using hand commands, hold your hand out like the sign for stop.
