How to Recycle Scrap Silver

Silver is one of those metals that can be used for almost anything. If you have a bunch of unwanted scraps laying around your house, it won't be hard to recycle them. It won't even be hard to sell them if you want to. Recycling or selling them to the person you want to is the tricky part. Some places will simply pawn off your scraps, some will melt it down and some may even re-sell it. Decide what you want to recycle for, and then the rest is easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather all your scrap silver together and decide what you want to keep. The condition of the silver doesn't matter too much, but nobody wants fake silver.

    • 2

Call your local jeweler and ask them if they'd like any scrap silver. Everybody is looking for silver these days, so it's unlikely they will say no. If you want to get paid for your scraps, call around and ask for prices. Most people won't discuss quotes over the phone, however, so you'll have to go in person.

    • 3

Bring your scraps to the jeweler of your choice. He will run a few tests on it to determine the quality and either accept or reject it. If you're selling them, you will most likely get paid on the spot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't bring your scraps to a pawn shop. They probably won't give you what they're worth and will sell them later on. Do a little research on the place you bring them to recycle.
