Choose a hand mixer for light duty mixing in the kitchen. Know which options you have available and choose your hand mixer accordingly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick up the mixer to check for weight. Hold the mixer with one hand for at least three minutes since many recipes require extended mixing time, and a hand mixer too heavy for you to hold will not be used.

Avoid hand mixers with handles parallel to the mixer. These increase the strain and make mixing difficult. Choose models with a handle sloping to the front of the mixer.

  2. Step 2

Look at the beaters. Choose hand mixers without a central post through the middle of the two beaters. Opting for wire beaters on a mixer will make cleaning them easier.

  3. Step 3

Choose a hand mixer with a digital touchpad. Highly rated models have this easy to clean feature rather than a manual switch with a groove where food gets trapped.

  4. Step 4

Locate a hand mixer with three to six speeds. Save money by avoiding those with up to 16 speeds as slow, medium and high will serve all your cooking needs. Choose mixers that have a slow speed to prevent splattering of ingredients when mixing begins.
