Carpet pads that are stuck on tile may have adhesive to keep the carpet from sliding. Carpet pads can come in many colors such as white and black depending on the type or carpet that was placed on the tile. Removing the carpet pad can be problematic because pieces may stick to the tile or the pad may not come off easily. This will require you to take a hands-on approach to remove the carpet pad.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic scraper
  • Nylon scrubber
  • Soap and water
  • Lubricant or solvent
  • Cloth or rags
  1. Step 1

Use a plastic scraper, and gently work at the stuck black carpet pad to remove as much as you can.

  2. Step 2

Apply a solvent or lubricant, such as rubbing alcoho,l to the carpet pad. Let the solvent soak into the pad for about 5 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Use a nylon scrubber, and gently scrub the pad until it begins to come off the tile. Use the scraper once the pad starts to come off.

  4. Step 4

Continue to scrub or scrape the carpet pad, using solvent or lubricant as needed, until the pad has been removed from the tile. Scrub any left over adhesive off the tile as well.

  5. Step 5

Wash the tile with soap and water once the carpet pad and adhesive residue have been removed.

  6. Step 6

Dry the tile with a cloth or rag to complete the project.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rubbing alcohol will neutralize the adhesive on the carpet pad. Nail polish remover or WD-40 can be used as a solvent or lubricant. A mop can be used instead of cloth to wash the tile.
  • Do not scrape too hard or the tile may become damaged. Avoid pouring solvent onto the grout because it may become stained.
