1
Exfoliate dead skin cells. Apply a body scrub to your legs with a loofah two to three times per week. The ingrown hairs get trapped beneath the surface of the skin and when you exfoliate, the dead skin cells get removed and the ingrown hairs get released. Begin exfoliating one week before you plan to shave you legs.

2
Apply an alcohol-based toner. Dip a cotton ball in the toner and dab onto the ingrown hair. Ingrown hairs increase due to bacteria formation and using alcohol-based toner will kill bacteria.

3
Soften your skin before you start shaving. Fill the tub with warm water. Sit in there for 20 minutes. This will soften the skin and make it easier to remove hair from the roots. If your bathroom does not feature a bathtub, remain in the shower for 20 minutes.

4
Apply shaving cream or gel to your legs. Allow to sit for two minutes to further soften your skin.

5
Shave off hairs with the razor using long strokes. Avoid taking short strokes, as it can be harsh on your skin. Maintain the flow of the razor in the same direction in which your hair is grown. This will avoid after-shave hazards such as razor burns.

6
Rinse your legs with warm water. Pat them dry with a towel. Apply aloe vera gel on the shaved area, which works as a natural guard and antiseptic. The result is smooth and irritation-free legs.
