Instructions

    • 1

Receive a four-year college degree in business or a related field such as marketing. While it isn't required that you have a college degree, you'll find it helpful when applying for jobs.

    • 2

Take the pre-certification course offered in your state. This course is offered through the Department of Insurance and asks basic questions about how insurance companies work and ethics relating to insurance.

    • 3

Wait for your license to arrive in the mail. If you've passed the pre-certification test, then the license will arrive in the mail. If you failed the test, you will receive information about retaking the test at a future date.

    • 4

Visit the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Web site and visit the job postings section. This lists all the positions available within the company. The company is an equal opportunity employer.

    • 5

Submit your application through the e-mail address listed on the Web site - resumes@okfb.com - along with a cover letter. Include the title of the position in the subject line of your e-mail and it will be sent to the appropriate office. If the company is interested then you'll be contacted directly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take a public speaking course and learn more about presenting yourself to clients. A big part of your job as an agent involves finding new customers and keeping existing customers happy. You must be able to speak candidly and professionally with clients. If you don't have a college degree, then consider taking a few courses in business from your local community college or through the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research. This helps set you apart from the rest of the applicants.

  • Don't naturally assume that you can work as an Oklahoma Farm Bureau agent. The company only hires agents a few times a year and won't accept applications unless the job is posted.
