How to Prepare Pole Beans for Consumption

Pole beans grow on a vine and are placed around a pole by the gardener. They can be grown either inside or out (though growing the beans outside is more common). There are several variations of pole beans. though they are prepared in the same manner. Preparing pole beans for consumption is an easy process, but great care must be taken to wash away dirt or debris. If you harvest a large amount of pole beans, you can freeze them for a few months at a time. Does this Spark an idea?

      Remove the bean from the pole. You can simply pick them off to remove.

      Cut the end of the bean off using your knife and discard. This is the stem of the bean.

      Fill your kitchen sink with lukewarm water and add your beans. Allow to set for a few minutes.

      Drain the water and re-rinse the beans by holding them under a running faucet.

    • 5

      Pat dry with your paper towel and prepare as you normally would.

  • Supervise children around knives. Rinse well so you do not consume any dirt or bugs.
