How to Use Your Calphalon Cast Iron Panini Pan

Panini are warm sandwiches consisting of meat and melted cheese. To make panini, you construct the sandwich and then cook it in a pan to warm the sandwich ingredients and melt the cheese. You can make panini using almost any pan or griddle; however, using a special panini pan will produce a crisp and delicious sandwich.   • Calphalon cast iron panini pan
  • Stove
  • Bread
  • Meat
  • Cheese
  • Olive oil or butter
  • Utility knife
  • Plastic spatula
  • Dishwashing soap
  • Dishcloth and dishtowel

Instructions

      Construct your panini using two pieces of bread and whatever meats and cheeses you desire. Spread butter or olive oil on the outside surfaces of the bread.

      Heat the panini pan over medium-high heat on the stove top for several minutes.

      Place your sandwich onto the pan and place the panini press over the sandwich. Cook the sandwich for two or three minutes and lift the press. Use the spatula to flip the sandwich to the other side and replace the press.

      Cook the sandwich on the other side until the cheese and meat are warm and the bread is brown.

      Remove the pan from the heat and turn off the stove. Serve the sandwich immediately.

      Wait until the panini pan is cool and then wash the pan by hand in dishwashing soap and warm water. Dry the pan and store until ready to use again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the panini pan in the oven in temperatures up to 500 degrees. Do not use under a broiler, however. Use only non-metal utensils with the panini pan, and don't place it in the refrigerator or freezer. Calphalon states that the panini pan is dishwasher-safe, but they recommend hand washing.
