How to Open a Kenmore Dryer Cabinet

Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the Kenmore dryer from the wall outlet. Pull the dryer away from the wall enough so that you have room to work behind it.

      Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamp that secures the exhaust duct work to the dryer exhaust. Pull the dryer duct work off of the exhaust.

      Use a screwdriver to remove the retaining screws at the front of the control console. Flip the console back into its service position.

      Use a screwdriver to remove the three retaining screws on the top rear of the dryer. These screws are directly under the area where the control panel sits.

      Slide the top panel toward you to release the front and rear retaining tabs. Pull the top of the dryer off and out of the work area.

      Locate the door switch and disconnect the wiring harness from the switch. The door switch is located inside the front right corner of the dryer cabinet. Press in on the plastic locking tab to disconnect the wiring harness.

      Insert a putty knife between the top of the toe panel and the bottom of the front panel and locate the retaining clip. Press in on the clip and pull the toe panel away from the dryer.

      Open the dryer door and remove the lint screen. Close the dryer door. Pull the two door springs down and release it from the base of the dryer.

      Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws that attach the lint duct to the dryer. Remove the lint duct and set it away from the work area.

      Use a screwdriver to remove the retaining screws at the top and bottom of the front panel. Press in on the locking tab to the wiring harness just under the inside lip of the front panel. Lift up the front panel and place it out of the way.

      Use a socket wrench to remove the screws that secure the back panel to the side panels. Pull the side panel out and slide them toward the front to release the sides from the bottom tabs.
