How to Design Labels for Candle Jars

Candle making is a fun and inexpensive way to make gifts for family and friends, or even a great way to earn extra income. However, it requires more than just melting wax, adding fragrance, and placing the candle in pretty packaging. You will need to make labels, especially if you are looking to turn your candle-making hobby into a business. Use labels to identify the product, for contact information, and for burning and safety instructions.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Visualize how you want your labels to look. Think of a color scheme or theme. Organize your wording for your product labels and instruction labels.

    • 2

Open a word processing document and type in the product information. Include the type of candle, the candle maker's name, and contact information, such as an email address or website address. Choose an easy-to-read font and make the type size no larger than 14 points. Use a smaller type size for the candle scent information, around 10 points.

    • 3

Click on "Page Setup" of your word processing program and adjust the settings according to your label size.

    • 4

Review the label paper to make sure that it is aligned properly for the document setup you have chosen. If you are having trouble setting up the document, try using a label template. Thepapermillstore.com offers free label templates with many different setup options.

    • 5

Manipulate the color of the wording until you reach a desired color scheme. Try italics or bold-faced type. You may also change the background color to complement your wording.

    • 6

Save your label design in order to edit and to use again.

    • 7

Print one sheet of labels. If the labels are of desired quality, continue printing as many labels as needed. If labels need adjusting, adjust and save.

    • 8

Peel and affix the labels to the front of the jars. Add ribbon around the lid for more appeal.

    • 9

Use the same procedure to print burning and safety instructions for the bottom of the candle jars. Trim the warning labels to fit the bottom of the particular candle jars that you are using.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add photographs or clip art to your labels by uploading them from your computer and inserting them around the wording. To set them as backgrounds, follow the instructions of your word processing program.
