The smell of fresh-baked sugar cookies coming from the kitchen is one of the hallmarks of the Christmas season. Sugar cookies aren’t complete, however, without icing and decorations. Homemade icing for sugar cookies is easy to make, and will be a better complement to your homemade treat than the store-bought kind. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Several small bowls
  • 1/2 cup of confectioners sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of water
  • Food coloring
  • Colored sprinkles

Instructions

    • 1

      Mix the sugar and water together in a small bowl. Add more sugar or water depending on how thick or thin you want the icing to be.

      Divide up your icing evenly in small bowls and add a drop or two of food coloring in each bowl. Mix the color into the icing.

      Use a spoon to drop the icing onto the cookie, and then use the back of the spoon to smooth it from end to end.

    • 4

      Sprinkle the sprinkles on top while the icing is still smooth and moist.
