The first step in making beer, a sugar wash for vodka, or wine. You can use many different types of containers, but a 6 gallon water storage jug is my personal choice. The duct tape and the plumbers tape would be used to hold down the air plug in the back to keep the whole process airtight.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A container, must be food grade and air-tight and seal-able.
  • Duct tape
  • Plumbers tape
  • 2-4 ft of 1/2 inch rubber tube.
  • A small water tight jug (5-20 oz)
  • Epoxy
  1. Step 1

First you must drill a hole for the hose. You must makes sure it is the perfect size for the hose, and that you have a way to seal it, because if any oxygen gets in, then the yeast in the mix will make more yeast instead of turning the sugar to alcohol.

  2. Step 2

Next you have to seal any air spouts there are for pouring reasons. Do this with some plumbers tape and duct tape. You might also consider wrapping the handle for a better grip.

  3. Step 3

Now insert the hose into the hole you drilled, and bend it 90 degrees until its touching the jug. Proceed to duct tape it to the jug about 3 inches from the bend.

  4. Step 4

To seal the bend where the hose enters the jug, spread some epoxy and let it sit for the amount of time directed.

  5. Step 5

Next, fill the smaller jug with water about 3/4 full. And then place the air hose in the water. This jug will serve as the air lock, which lets the pressure out, and keeps the jug from exploding.

  6. Step 6

Now all that's left tot do is load up the fermenting jug with your wash, and wait until its ready! Enjoy! :)

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep it very air tight!
  • Be warned, it is possible that it is very illegal to brew in your area. Always check local laws!
