How to Stay Highly Motivated

How to Stay Highly Motivated thumbnail
Writing down your goals is a great way to stay highly motivated.

Staying highly motivated can be fairly difficult, especially if negative emotions are clouding your mind throughout the day. Motivation is all about eliminating negative emotions from your mind and focusing on how good you'll feel if you accomplish your goals in life. No goal is too big to accomplish if you're highly motivated.

Instructions

    • 1

Write out a list of your goals on a piece of paper. Be very specific when you write your goals and give yourself a deadline for accomplishing each one. Hang the piece of paper up in a place where you'll see it every day, like on your refrigerator or bathroom mirror.

Look at your list when you wake up each morning and think about how good you would feel if you accomplished all of your goals. Visualize how your life would be as vividly as possible to help motivate yourself.

    • 3

Publicly commit to accomplishing your goal by telling as many friends and family members about them as you can. Give them updates on your goals as you get closer to accomplishing each one. Your friends and family members can give you support as you work towards your goals as well as provide some added positive pressure.

Imagine yourself on your deathbed at least once a week and visualize how you would feel if you did not accomplish your biggest goals in life. This may seem depressing to some people, but for many it's an extremely inspirational exercise.

    • 5

Eliminate all negative thoughts from your mind. Negative thoughts and emotions will only make it more difficult for you to accomplish your goals.

    • 6

Create a vision board and hang it up in your office or home. Vision boards are spaces that have pictures of things you want to do in life. You might put up a picture of your dream home or a photo of a beautiful sunset that you might see on a desired vacation. Other ideas include putting up a picture of your spouse or children to keep you motivated.

    • 7

Give yourself performance incentives for accomplishing tasks related to your goals. For example, you might tell yourself that if you get a big project for work done early you're going to treat yourself by going out to dinner with a group of friends.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set short-term daily goals in addition to the long-term goals you have in life. This will help keep you motivated on a daily basis because you'll be pressured to accomplish small goals every day. Make sure you get between seven and eight hours of sleep each night. Getting enough sleep is an important part of staying motivated because if you don't you'll start to feel lethargic and your motivation will decrease.

  • It's important to eliminate as many distractions as you can when you're working towards a goal. Taking a few deep breaths is an excellent way to clear your mind of negative emotions, especially when you're feeling stressed out.
