How to Say "Christmas" in Spanish

Christmas is an important tradition in all of the Spanish-speaking countries. It is widely celebrated, although traditional means of celebration do vary between countries and regions. However, the word for "Christmas" is the same across all of these different Spanish dialects, making it easy to learn.

1. The word for "Christmas" in Spanish is more closely related to the word "nativity" in English. Simply put, the word is "Navidad". As you can see, it is a direct translation of the word "nativity".

2. You've probably heard that Jose Feliciano song, "Feliz Navidad". So you should already know the word for Christmas! Just remember that "feliz" means "happy" and "navidad" means "Christmas".

3. The "v" in "Navidad" can be pronounced almost like a "b" sound, and the last "d" is said softly.

4. Now that you know how to say "Christmas" and "Merry Christmas", practice them out on some of your Spanish-speaking friends.

5. You may also want to be able to say "Christmas Eve" in Spanish. Spanish speakers say "The Good Night" for "Christmas Eve". All you have to say is "Noche Buena". "Noche" means "night" and "Buena" means good. So, if you want to say "Christmas Eve" in Spanish, just say "Noche Buena".
