Step 1
Turn your job skills into consulting experience.
Your day-job qualifications are a valuable resource, so capitalize on that hands-on experience. Think of the ways you excel at work then advertise those skills to other businesses or individuals. Consultants can create some schedule flexibility, though this isn't for everyone.
>Created a smooth filing system? Offer your services as a Personal Organizer.
>Love industry specific software? Offer to customize and train at other businesses.
>Skilled construction worker or auto enthusiast? Become a custom builder where jobs allow for creativity and pay higher rates. -
Step 2
Take your hobby to the next step. When you love what you do, it is easier to make money. If friends comment what an excellent baker, gardener, artist you are then start listening to their praises.
>Love to sew? Start selling your work at local craft or artists fairs.
>Love to sculpt figures for your model train? Expand with a variety of miniatures like toys that relate to role playing games, comics, popular movies, or other pop culture. -
Step 3
Get in on the world of events. Whether you are a florist, a baker, a tailor, photographer, DJ or entertainer, if you do well you will have a long list of clientele.
>Work with local halls and party stores and let them do some of the advertising for you.
>Be prepared with samples, a portfolio, or audition material. -
Step 4
Get online. Online media is an easy way to make continuous though small sums of money. Blogging, writing articles, or selling pictures are three top ways to earn.
*Protect yourself from infringement. Be sure your name is attached to anything you post online and save a copy to your computer. There is no need to register your work, just having some proof that it is your intellectual property will serve as a copyright. Proceed with some caution here. -
Step 5
Sell things on your terms.
Get a real estate license, sell Avon, sell on Ebay. It takes a special sort of person to cold-call (sell to strangers) but if you are outgoing and friendly this may be perfect for you.
*Avoid selling only to your friends, eventually they may grow tired of your entrepreneurship. -
Step 6
Start a farm.
This may sound like a weird idea, but organic farming is a bustling and high-demand industry. It's not just livestock and vegetables, there is also a need for organic flowers, honey, even Christmas Tree farms.
>Turn your farm into an educational spot to attract field-trippers or those looking for a hands-on agricultural experience.
>If you need staffers, hire college students looking for internships - degree interests from botany to veterinary may appreciate the learning experience.
>Review government grants and tax benefits given to farming or eco-green projects. -
Step 7
Offer personal services.
>Are you fit and healthy? Become a personal coach and motivator, be paid to walk or jog or cook with those looking for extra support in changing their lifestyle.
>Run errands or offer limo service for the elderly.
>Care for pets.
>Be a personal stylist or personal shopper.
