Things You'll Need:

  • Confidence!
  1. Step 1

Step 1) The first step in negotiating with Debt Collectors and Creditors is REALIZING THEIR IS A PROBLEM. Do not avoid all the collections calls and collections letters. Realize that you are having a financial problem and that you need to hit the problem head on. Do not avoid your financial problems--they won't be resolved that way.

  2. Step 2

Step 2) The second step in negotiating with Debt Collectors and Creditors is COMPROMISE. Give each collector a call to tell them that you can not make the payment in full. Tell them how much you can pay them. With so many people having financial problems right now, many debt collectors and creditors are willing to work with you right now.

  3. Step 3

Step 3) The third step in negotiating with debt collectors and creditors is STICKING TO YOUR WORD. You've talked to them over the phone to tell them that you will be making a reduced payment--remit your payment to them otherwise your word means nothing.

  4. Step 4

Step 4) I hope this has been a helpful article on how to deal with creditors and debt collectors. Good luck!
