Clean a Stainless Steel Stovetop

While stainless steel stovetops are undeniably beautiful, they can be downright ugly when caked with greasy, dirty grit. Read on for some simple strategies to get your stainless steel stovetop shining again.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use soap and water. After each use, clean the stovetop with soap and water on a paper towel or dish rag to wipe away grease and food debris (remove grids if necessary, after they have cooled).

  2. Step 2

Try a stainless steel cleaner. Gently rub the cleaner onto the stovetop (move in the direction of the stainless steel's grainy patterns) to remove stains that don't come off easily with soap and water.

  3. Step 3

Bring in the heavy duty stuff. For the seriously caked on grit, use an oven cleaner (read instructions carefully). Spray the oven cleaner onto the stainless steel stovetop, let it sit for a few minutes, then gently wipe away with a wet paper towel. The results are amazing.

  4. Step 4

Be gentle. Remember to use a non-abrasive cleaner on stainless steel (never use brillo pads) so that the quality of the stovetop isn't compromised.
