Make Sea Glass Soap
Make Sea Glass Soap

Sea glass soap resembles the gems you find while looking for shells on the beach. Make sea glass soap, package and share with friends and family to re-live your coastal experience.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • • 1-2 lbs. of clear M&P soap base • 1 oz or less of fragrance oil • green, blue & yellow soap colorant (liquid) • 1 oz or less of silk mica powder • 3 small (5 x 7 trays) any square mold
  1. Step 1

Chop up the melt and pour soap base into small chunks. Melt the soap base in the microwave until liquid but do not let it boil. Split the melted soap into three equal parts and color each with the colorants to achieve the sea glass look you are going for. Just a few drops of colorant is needed, you want a semi-transparent look to the soap. Add in the fragrance and stir in well. Pour the dyed, melted soap into the bottoms of the trays or molds to equal 1/4".

  2. Step 2

Once the soap is solidified and sufficiently hardened, remove from the tray or mold and cut into 1/2" strips or columns. At this point, cut the strips into small shapes that mimic the look of sea glass. Vary the size to keep it visually interesting.

  3. Step 3

Place a small amount of cut up soap pieces into the zip lock baggie and add a sprinkle of the silk mica. Seal the baggie, and shake the soap pieces and mica until the soap pieces are coated. Repeat the process until all the soap pieces have been coated with a light film of mica glitter. This will impart a frosted appearance. Brush off individual pieces of soap if there is any clumping of the mica. Divide your sea glass soap into individual faux Chinese food takeout cartons; make sure you have a good mix of all the colors in each box. Place a label on each box, and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • If bubbles form on the top of the melted soap in the mold after pouring, spritz with a small amount of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. This will help to eliminate the bubbles.
  • Use caution handling the hot, melted soap, it can burn your skin.
