Build Your Wardrobe Without Going Into Debt
Build Your Wardrobe Without Going Into Debt

Do you enjoy shopping for the latest fashions but are restricted to a limited budget? Use these tips to build your wardrobe without going into debt.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time
  • Gas
  • Patience
  • Will Power
  1. Step 1

Shop for quality items at wholesale locations such as Ross, Marshall's, Burlington or TJ Maxx. These stores sell quality and sometimes name brand fashions at a fraction of the price. These stores may not be as organized as your typical department store but you are guaranteed to get stylish, trendy or designer pieces at a lower cost.

  2. Step 2

Set a budget for yourself beforehand. Take only a certain amount of cash with you when going on your shopping spree. Leave credit cards and check books at home. This will limit your spending and knowing you only have a certain amount of cash on hand will force you to choose wisely.

  3. Step 3

Start with the clearance racks first. In order to get more for your money you may come out better shopping only for items that are on sale. You don't necessarily have to look for an entire outfit. Random pieces at a good price will add versatility to your wardrobe and over time it will all come together.

  4. Step 4

Shop off season. Summer clothes go on sale at the beginning of fall, winter clothes go on sale at the beginning of spring, etc. You may not be able to wear the items right away because the seasons are changing but that expensive jacket you could not afford in January will be marked down to half the price by March.

  5. Step 5

Shop at outlet malls. Outlet malls usually consist of designer clothing stores at reduced prices. You may not be able to afford the Ralph Lauren brand in Macy's but you will be able to find a Ralph Lauren store in the outlet mall; and chances are the items are less expensive.

  6. Step 6

Don't be ashamed to thrift shop. Places like Goodwill or Plato's Closet sell worn or gently used clothing, shoes and handbags for very cheap prices. Remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
