This is a solution that was developed one year in college, when we went out and bought a four foot high Christmas tree, then realized we didn't have a Christmas tree stand to put it in.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • End table with a water resistant top.
  • Bowl, preferably stainless steel.
  • Heavy twine.
  • plastic sheeting.
  • Saw
  1. Step 1

If your end table doesn't have a water proof top, you'll need to make it water resistant. This Christmas tree stand project isn't recommended for fine furniture, only use a table you're willing to risk water marks on. To make it more water resistant, wrap the top in plastic sheeting. A cut open trash bag will work.

  2. Step 2

Place the bowl in the middle of the end table.

  3. Step 3

Saw an inch or two off the bottom of the tree to open up water flow.

  4. Step 4

Hold the bowl over the trunk to see if you need to cut off a lower branch to make the trunk reach the bottom of the bowl.

  5. Step 5

Tie three foot lengths of twine to the Christmas tree about a foot and a half up the trunk. You want one length for each leg of the table. It's best to tie them around the trunk, just above a large sturdy branch. There should be one piece of string for each leg of the end table.

  6. Step 6

Place the tree trunk in the bowl in the middle of the end table.

  7. Step 7

Tie the strings to the legs of the end table to form the Christmas tree stand supports.

  8. Step 8

    Add water to the bowl.

  9. Step 9

Cover the strings and table with some kind of tree skirt stand in if you like.
