Step 1
The first step is to list down your needs as far as the support needed for walking is concerned. Ask yourself a few questions in terms of the usage. The list should contain the following
Number of times in a day you will use the walker.
What is your weight?
Will you use this for going for grocery shopping (that will mean space for extra bags?)
What is your height? This will help select the correct height of the walker
Will you be using the walker indoor or outdoors?
What kind of flooring do you have at home? -
Step 2
The next step is to visit a medical supply store in your area and test drive a few walkers. Test drive all the options especially in terms of wheels. Test drive a walker with wheels, no wheels, glides, four wheel and three wheels.
-
Step 3
After the test drive check the prices in the shops as well as online.
-
Step 4
Once you have finalized the style of the walker then select the color of the walker. Most common colors are the blue, green and burgundy.
-
Step 5
Before making the final purchase get a prescription from your physician and then call your health insurance to check if they will cover the walker.
-
Step 6
Before buying select all the accessories that are needed for the walker like extra cushions, eta bags, place for oxygen (if needed) and a nice basket.
-
Step 7
After the purchase have the annual maintenance done by the retailer. This helps as company will send in someone every six months to check the various parts for wear and tear.
