How to Change Idle Browser Settings
To some, dial-up is considered the equivalent of "snail mail." Just like a stamped letter, the message will eventually arrive, you just don't know when. Specifically with dial-up, sometimes the default pause is set too long, resulting in a disconnect before the next attempt to connect is made. Other times a line is dropped and no one is really to blame. These things just happen. There are some tricks to troubleshooting idle browser settings. Let's say you actually enjoy taking the scenic route, you can still speed up the road less traveled and connect faster to the Internet.

Click "Start" and then select "Control Panel."

Click "Network and Internet Connections" and then select "Network Connections."

Select the dial-up connection for reconfiguration.

Click "Change Settings of This Connection" under "Network Tasks."

Go to the "Options" tab and indicate the amount of times the dial-up is to attempt a connection in "Redial Attempts."

Set the pause time between each dial-up attempt by going to "Time Between Redial Attempts" and clicking the arrows.

Set the idle time for client to disconnect by going to "Idle Time Before Hanging Up" and clicking the arrows until your desired time is set.

Check the box "Redial If Line Is Dropped" for automatic redial.

Tips & Warnings
If you set the redial default time to less than the one minute, it may not have enough time to reset itself between redial attempts. If you want to decrease this time, try lowering it in 15-second increments. For instance, try a 45-second and then a 30-second redial default at most.
