Things You'll Need:
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Paper clip
- Small plastic beads
- Pliers
- Orthodontic wax
-
Step 1
Clean a paper clip and several small plastic beads thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide. This will disinfect the materials and help prevent infection from placing foreign objects in your mouth.
-
Step 2
Bend a paper clip into a U shape, leaving a sharp point at each end.
-
Step 3
Thread several small plastic beads onto the paper clip. These beads will represent colored brackets on the braces.
-
Step 4
Bend the two sharp ends of the wire with pliers. Use the pliers to curve each sharp end into a small loop. A tiny loop on each side of the wire will keep the beads in place.
-
Step 5
Roll two small pieces of orthodontic wax into balls. You can purchase orthodontic wax at a drugstore or ask for some at your orthodontist's office. Place one ball of orthodontic wax on each end of the U to prevent the sharp edges of the paper clip from coming loose and cutting your mouth.
-
Step 6
Place the fake braces into your mouth very carefully. If the braces do not feel comfortable, remove them and add more orthodontic wax or bend the wire to fit your mouth better.
