Instructions

  1. Disconnect Power Steering Pump Lines

    • 1

Lift the front of the vehicle using a jack and jack stands. Be sure the vehicle is secure before you crawl underneath it.

    • 2

Locate the power steering pump on the lower portion of the driver's side of the engine. Remove the cap using your hands; this will help relieve pressure.

    • 3

Locate the power steering lines coming from the back of the pump into the steering rack.

    • 4

Remove one of the lines at the power steering pump using the open-end wrench. Crack the line first by slowly opening the line to help relieve pressure. Have the drain pan handy in case it leaks.

    • 5

Completely disconnect the line from the power steering pump and pour any fluids into the drain pan. This should empty most of the fluid into the drain pan.

    • 6

Disconnect the other end of the line from the power steering rack using the open-end wrench. The line is now removed.

    • 7

Install the replacement line by first connecting the hose on the power steering rack, and then on the power steering pump using the open-end wrench. If you need to replace the other line, follow the same steps.

    Bleed the Power Steering System

    • 8

Fill the power steering pump with power steering fluid.

    • 9

Start the truck and, with the truck still on stands, turn the wheels from lock to lock 10 times. This should help to remove air from the lines that could cause a jittery steering experience.

    • 10

Refill the power steering pump and repeat Step 2.

    • 11

Raise the vehicle off of the jack stands and lower it back to the ground using the jack.
