How to Calculate Wallpaper Border

Putting up a wallpaper border in a room changes the decor in a single afternoon, but you need to be certain to purchase enough border without having too much left over. Calculating the amount of wallpaper border requires carefully measuring the room. After some multiplying and adding, you will be ready to head to the home improvement store.

• Tape measure
• Pencil and paper

Instructions

1. Measure the width of all of the walls of the room in inches. Write these numbers down on a sheet of paper.

2. Measure the height of each of the walls, if hanging wallpaper in addition to the border. Make a note of the height of each wall.

3. Multiply the height and width of each wall to determine the area to cover with full sheets of wallpaper. Add the areas of all of the walls for the total square inches of wallpaper needed. Divide this by 12 to determine the total feet. Then take the square feet of wallpaper and divide by 25 to find out how many wallpaper rolls to buy.

4. Take the width only of each of the walls and add them together. This equals the length, in inches, of the border to buy. Divide the total inches by 12 to calculate the number of feet of wallpaper border.

5. Divide the total border length by 15 feet to get the number of 5-yard rolls of border to buy.
