Step 1
Download and install onto your computer the latest version of Winamp Pro from winamp.com. The software costs $19.95, but the free version does not include the M4A-to-MP3 conversion tool.

Open the M4A file you want to convert in Winamp Pro by selecting "Play file..." from the "File" menu or by dragging and dropping the file from Windows Explorer into the Winamp window.

Right-click the song you just loaded in the Winamp window, choose the "Send to..." option from the pop-up menu, and then choose "Format Converter" from the list that appears.

Select "MP3 Encoder v1.35a" at the bottom of the "Configuration" window. If you want save the converted file to a specific folder on your computer or change the name of the converted file, you can input those changes in the fields near the top of the "Configuration" window. To keep the same file location and name as the original M4A, select the "Use old file name and path" option.

Click "OK" to start the converstion process. When the pop-up window informs you the file was converted successfully, click "Done."
