How to Restore Your iPod Manually
Restoring your iPod returns the device to the original factory settings. Any modified settings or customization on your iPod will be erased, along with any data, such as music, videos or photos that you have stored on the device. Restoring an iPod is necessary only when the iPod has stopped working and all other attempts to correct the problem have been unsuccessful. If you need to restore your iPod, you can manually do so using iTunes.

3
Select the iPod icon in the left pane. The data regarding your iPod will appear in the main iTunes window.

Click "Restore." You will receive four different restoration options. The two simplest options are to "Restore," using the version of the iPod firmware already installed on your iPod, or "Restore and Update," which downloads the newest version of the iPod firmware before restoring if you are connected to the Internet.
-
5
Enter your administrator's name and password for the computer. This box will appear automatically once you pick a restoration option. Once entered, the iPod will start restoring. The progress of the restoration will be monitored on the screen.

Follow the instructions listed on the screen once the initial part of the restoration is complete. The message on older iPod models will likely say to "Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter." Newer iPod models will likely say "Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore." Do as instructed. The iPod will come on with the Apple logo on the screen and there will be a progress bar to monitor the progress beneath the logo.

Name the iPod and choose your preferences. Once the restoration is complete, if the iPod is still connected to the computer, the "Setup Assistant" will automatically appear in iTunes. If your computer is plugged into the power adapter, plug it back into the computer once the restoration is complete in order to set up your iPod.
